PET 2011 Race Report from Dave Heywood in Utah USA
Hey Coach …….I just finished the PET and had a blast. My brother flew in late last night from West Virginia to see his kids that go to college here in Utah so he and his son joined me. There’s a picture attached. It was a little too late for them to register on your website and get a bib so I just did a “race day registration” for them by modifying my bib and reprinting it for them. participant list. A picture is attached. My nephew, Austin Heywood, is on the left (in red), he finished IM 70.3 Hawaii a few years back. I’m in the center, I did a lot of sprints last year and one olympic and in youger years did longer things like marathons and one long tri. My brother, Dr. Greg Heywood, on the right has finished IM 70.3 Hawaii a couple of times and also finished IM Florida and IM Saint George in the last couple of years. All three of us are training to participate in IM 70.3 Muncie in July. It will by my first half IM and I’m really looking forward to it. For the PET we each timed ourselves and did a staggered start, so I don’t have their splits, but I did the swim (the pool was set to the short course so we did 800 yards instead of the 750 meters we had planned). My swim was 14:25, a PB at that distance by 45 seconds so I was very pleased with it. My bike (stationary bike was 20k in 41:44, which is okay for me, especially early in the season). My run (5K) was 25:53, which isn’t my best 5K, but close and definitely good for early in the season following a swim and bike. I had just under 3:30 in total transition time, which could probably improve. Total time was 1:25:28, which was pretty good for me. All in all, it was a great thing to do and helped me establish where I am as I get closer to the races I’m registered for this year. I have a couple of other friends that I don’t think ever took the time to register, but were planning on doing it today too. I don’t know how they did but I hope they had as much fun as I did. Thanks for putting it on. I had an excellent time.
